Discover Old Lyme! Spectacular Beaches, Art Galleries and Exquisite Estates Old Lyme was established by the Earl of Warwick in 1631, occupied in 1635, and settled and named in 1636. It is a community of less than 8,000 permanent residents and an additional several thousand seasonal visitors who occupy a shoreline complex of summer residences. Located on the east bank of the mouth of the Connecticut River where it meets Long Island Sound, and continues along the shoreline of the Sound.
